Hosdurg




Hosdurg is situated in Kasargod district. It is a town which was formely a part of Kannur district. This place is famous with its chain of forts built by Somashekara Nayak of the Ikkeri dynasty. Hosdurg is known for the Nityanandashram with 45 caves. A statue of Swami Nityananda made of panchaloha is one of the attractions of the ashram. Another holy spot is the famous Karpooreshwara temple. Agriculture and fishing have been the primary sources of income of the people here. Hosdurg was once famous for its tobacco production. Mangalore airport (80 km) and Calicut airport (200 km) are the nearest airports.
