Hojagiri Dance

Hojagiri is a folk dance performed by the Reang community of Tripura. It is a reflection of the age old culture and the unique style of dance of the community.

The womenfolk of the community perform this dance form, on the occasions of Mailuma and Mataikatal, signifying the festival of new harvest and worship of Goddess Lakshmi.

Only lower half of the body is moved to create rhythmic movements. The performers move metal plates while standing on a pitcher. Sometimes a bottle will be placed on the head with an oil lamp.
