Hiranyeshwarar Temple




Hiranyeshwarar Temple is located on the western bank of the Sarvateertham Tank, in Kanchipuram. The temple houses the idol of Lord Shiva as Hiranyeshwarar. It is believed that this idol was worshipped by the demon Hiranyaksha . It is big in size and has sixteen holy stripes. According to the legend, Hiranyaksha, along with his brother and son, went to Kanchi and installed the idols in their respective names and worshipped Lord Shiva. Finely the Lord blessed Hiranyaksha with a powerful boon.

To get to this place, the nearest railway station is the Arrakonam Railway Station, located to the north-east of Kanchipuram.
