Hijli

Hijli, a historic seaport, is situated at the confluence of Hooghly and Rasulpur rivers in Midnapur District. It is the place where Job Charnock defeated the local forces in 1687 and founded the British settlement in Kolkata.

Hijli is easily accessible from Dariapur which lies north of the Hooghly river. Main attractions are the Masnad-I-Ala-Masjid built around 1648-49 and the twin temples, Joramandir, of Jagannath.
