Hemis Chheshu




Hemis Chheshu, a popular summer festival, is celebrated on the tenth and eleventh days of the fifth Bodhi month. It is held at Hemis Gompa in Leh, Jammu and Kashmir. This festival commemorates the birthday of Padma Sambhava, and marks the victory of good over evil.

During this festival, the Lamas perform group dance drama, which depicts the exploits of Padma Sambhava in vanquishing the bon magicians and the spirits under their control. This dance is inclusive of precise movements. The performers wear mask while performance.
