Heer Ranjha is an epic love story composed by the reputed 18th century poet Waris Shah. It is written in a poetic form and forms an inseparable part of the folk songs sung in Punjab
. The original style of singing this song is still maintained without undergoing any change since 1776, when it was written.
The song of Heer-Ranjha depicts the love between Heer, daughter of a chieftain, and Ranjha, the youngest son of a Zamindar (landlord). It contains their love, an attempt to seperate them by Heer’s parents and finally their untimely death caused by the unfavorable circumstances.
