Hariyali Devi Temple

Hariyali Devi’s is a highly revered shrine situated at an altitude of 1400 m above the sea level, amidst peaks and thick forests, in Rudraprayag District, Uttaranchal. The Siddha Pith of Hariyali Devi is located off the main Rudraprayag-Karnprayag route, along a road diverting from Nagrasu, 59 km from Rudraprayag.

Legends suggest that the Siddha Pith assumes prominence as the place where the hand of Mahamaya fell, after being thrown violently on the ground by Kansa, for being conceived as the seventh issue of Devaki. The temple enshrines a regally bejewelled idol of Ma Hariyali Devi, astride a lion. During the occassions of Janmashtami and Diwali, the idol is taken as a procession to Hariyali Kantha, 7 km from here. Hundreds of people gather to witness the event.
