Harela




Harela is a local festival of Bageshwar in Uttaranchal. It is peculiarly a Kumaoni festival to mark the advent of the rainy season. It is celebrated 10 to 11 days before the Shravan (July-August). During this festival, paddy, maize, horse bean, and other grains and sown in pots inside the room. The sowing is done ceremoniously by the head of the family or the family priest. It is believed that the color of the plants will be changed to yellow after the process.
