Harauti Tribe

Harauti is a tribal group inhabiting areas in Kota, Bundi, Baran, Jhalawar and Tonk districts of Rajasthan. Some of these tribes live in Gwalior District of Madhya Pradesh.

The community members speak a dialect known as 'Hadoti', a member of the Indo-Aryan language family. They engage in agriculture and forest wealth collection. Other areas of activity include hunting and fishing.

Harautis have their own secretive customs and regulations. Traditionally, they follow the endogamous (marriage only within the caste) system. Major part of the Harautis believes in Hinduism and some of them are converted into Muslims and Jains. They worship natural objects and spirits.
