HDFC Bank




The HDFC Bank, incorporated in August 1994 in the name of 'HDFC Bank Limited' with its registered office in Mumbai, was established as part of the RBI's (Reserve Bank of India) liberalization of the Indian Banking Industry in 1994. The bank is promoted by the Housing Development Finance Corporation Limited (HDFC) which was amongst the first to receive an 'in-principle' approval from the RBI to set up a bank in the private sector. In January 1995 the bank commenced operations as a Scheduled Commercial Bank.

The bank at present has a network of around 360 branches spread over 175 cities across the country. All branches are linked on an online real-time basis. Customers in 90 locations are also serviced through Phone Banking. The bank also acts as a clearing/settlement bank to various leading stock exchanges. HDFC Bank was the first bank in India to launch an International Debit Card in association with VISA (VISA Electron). It issues the MasterCard Maestro debit card as well. Innovative services offered by the bank include inter-city/inter-branch banking, net banking, mobile banking, and bill pay.
