Gurupur

Situated on the banks of the river of the same name, Gurupur is about 10 km north-east of Mangalore. The place was an important town during the period of Bidanur rulers. The Veerashaiva Guru Math with ornately carved windows is the main attraction of this place. Built by the rulers of Bidanur, this building is now in a dilapidated condition. There is a Neelakantha temple in the premises of the math. The Traveler's Bungalow here commands a fine panoramic view around. Ganjimatha, a hamlet situated close to this place, is well-known for its Veerashaiva Math. Mangalore Central Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
