Guru Gorakhnath Temple




Guru Gorakhnath Temple is situated opposite to the Shankar Mutt at Srinagar in Pauri Garhwal District of Uttaranchal. This temple is located inside a cave. This site is believed to be the place where a saint named Guru Gorakhnath meditated and preached. The rock on which he meditated is situated at the mouth of the cave. The path leading to the temple is very narrow. One has to literally crawl through it.

The Guru’s image has been installed by his disciples in this cave. The daily prayers are organized by the members of the ‘Nath’ sect, which consists of the followers of the Guru. The Guru is believed to have attained Samadhi in this cave. According to historians the original date of construction of this temple is 1667.

A person wishing to visit this temple can avail of the bus and taxi services from Srinagar. The nearest railhead is at Kotdwar. The nearest airport is the Jolly Grant Airport.
