Gurdwara Maal Tekri Sahib

Gurdwara Maal Tekri Sahib is a highly revered Sikh shrine situated to the north-east of Nanded, in Maharashtra. It is about 5 km from Takhat Sahib. The gurdwara is dedicated to Guru Nanak Dev, the first Sikh Guru. It comprises a single flat-roofed room with a circumambulatory. The grave of Sayyad Shah Hussain Lakad is situated near the gurdwara.

Gurdwara Maal Tekri Sahib was demolished by some Muslim fanatics in 1928, claiming the place as theirs. The matter was taken to the Nizam of Hyderabad. After a judicial enquiry, the gurdwara was restored to the Sikhs in 1930.

It is believed that Guru Nanak Dev have held religious courses with a Muslim ascetic Lakad Shah at this spot called Maal Tilla or Chakri Maal. It is also believed that Guru Gobind Singh discovered a hidden treasure from here which was taken to the site of the present Gurdwara Sangat Sahib, where the Guru distributed a part of it among his warriors and got the rest of it buried here again.

Gurdwara Maal Tekri Sahib is frequented by thousands of devotees from far and near.
