Gungri Monastery




Gungri Monastery is situated in Lahaul and Spiti District of Himachal Pradesh. It is one of the oldest Buddhist establishments lies in the Pin Valley. This monastery belongs to the red-headed sect, ‘Nyingmapa’ (Old School) founded by Padmasambhava, the patron saint of the Buddhists. He established Mahayana Tantric Buddhism here in the beginning of 8th century. Tabo Monastery, Attargo, Kye Monastery, Kibber Monastery, Sichling and Dhankar Monastery are the some of the nearby tourist destinations. Kullu Manali Airport at Bhuntar is the nearest airport. The nearest railway stations are Shimla Railway Station and Joginder Nagar Railway Station . Gungri Monastery is approachable from Kaza.
