Gulmarg Biosphere Reserve




Gulmarg Biosphere Reserve is located at a distance of 48 km from Srinagar. Many rare and endangered species inhabit this reserve. The main species found here are hangul, musk deer, serow, brown bear, leopard, black bear and red fox. This area also houses a good population of pheasants and upland birds apart from other species, both resident and migratory. Cedrus deodara, pinus griffithii, abies pindrow, aesculus indica, indigofera heterantha, sorbaria tomentosa and more flora are found in this area.

Gulmarg Biosphere Reserve is located at a distance of 57 km from Srinagar, and 342km from Jammu railhead. Regular buses ply from Srinagar, which is 48 km away from the reserve area. Tourist and private accommodation are readily available in Gulmarg.
