Gowalkot Fort




Situated 10 km from Chiplun on a small hill, Gowalkot fort covers an area of about two acres. The fort, believed to be built in 1690 by the Habshi of Janjira, was renewed in 1670 by Chhatrapati Shivaji. At present this fort is in a ruined state and is surrounded by trees, building and dwellings.

Chiplun, on the Mumbai-Goa Highway, is 250 km south of Mumbai and is an important stop on the Konkan Railways.
