Founded in 1991 at
Chandigarh, Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC) is a 500-bedded multi-disciplinary teaching hospital providing round the clock maternity and emergency care services with all supportive general specialties. It has separate intensive care unit, coronary care unit, burns unit and neonatal intensive care unit. The hospital specializes in nephrology, neonatology, neurosurgery, microbiology, radiology, urology, plastic surgery and cardiology.
GMC also offers best medical educational facilities for the students. Affiliated to the Panjab University, the college has five and a half years' degree program in Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). Admissions are on the basis of an entrance test conducted by the university.
The college has a wide range of infrastructural facilities including laboratories, libraries and separate hostels. In addition to academic excellence, students have consistently performed well at different cultural, literary and sports activities.
