Gotta

Gotta is a patchwork done in an artistic manner. This art is practiced in Rajasthan. ‘Gotta’ literally means ‘gold colored ribbon.’

The work involves folding, cutting and stitching the ribbons in the desired pattern on a cloth. The ribbons are also used to adorn the borders of cloths. As per tradition broad geometric designs and floral patterns are used. Thinner designs have been incorporated, giving more variety to the work. This work is used mainly for decorating the traditional costumes. It is also used for the additional adornment of clothes using the famous Bandhani tie-dye work.
