Gondaligara Ata




Gondaligara Ata is a narrative performing art form of Northern Karnataka. It is a theatrical performance on the divine tales or folk tales or historical legends.

It is usually performed by the people of ‘Gondal’ community. The folk form is mainly performed to satisfy the Shiva spirits or mother deity spirits. A ritual called the 'Gondal puja' is also organized.

The musical instrument used for the art form is called chaudike. It is believed that the instrument was made by Lord Parashuram, by taking the threading veins from the demon called Baanasur.
