Gonawan is located in the northern part of Nalanda District and is near the district’s border with Patna District. It is around 24 km north-east of Bihar Sharif and is about 57 km south-east of Patna.
Gonawan is also spelled as Gonawam. Nalanda, Rajgir and Pawapuri are some of the sites in the district with tourist importance.
Patna Airport is the nearest airport. Harnaut Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
