Established by the Wildlife Preservation Organization of the Uttar Pradesh Forest Department in 1975, Gharial Breeding and Rehabilitation Centre is located at Kukrail in
Lucknow District. The center collects and incubates crocodile eggs from the Chambal River region. The young crocodiles are reared for three years and then released back into wild.
