Garo

A Tribal group of Tripura



Garo is a tribal group of Tripura. They are mainly found in the districts of South Tripura and Dhalai. This tribal group was migrated to Tripura from Garo Hills of Meghalaya. According to ethnologists, the language spoken by Garos belong to the Tibbetan-Burmese linguistic groups. They live in houses made of mud wall and roofed with 'Chan' grass.

Sangnakma is the name given to the head of the community. The main dance performed by the group is called Wangala. Dama and Aaduri, made of buffalo horn are two main musical instruments accompanying this dance.
