Gangotri National Park




Gangotri National Park is in Uttarkashi District of Uttaranchal. The park is located at Gaumukh, the source of Ganges and hence it is protected for spiritual reasons.

It is known for its beautiful coniferous forests, which are Himalayan moist temperate type, and lush green meadows. Vegetation in the park includes chir pine deodar, fir, spruce, oak and rhododendrons.

The fauna found includes tiger, snow leopard, ibex, thar, serow, pheasants, partridges, doves, pigeons, parakeet, Himalayan barbet and bulbul.

Best time to visit the park is from April to October (summer season).

Jolly Grant Airport (276 km) is the nearest airport and Rishikesh Railway Station (258 km) is the nearest railhead. The park is accessible from a nearby town, Harsil.
