Established in 1975, Gangau is a mini wildlife sanctuary situated on the banks of Ken River, in
Chhatarpur District,
Madhya Pradesh. Spread over an area of 69 sq km, it acts as a vital buffer for the
Panna National Park. Gangau Wildlife Sanctuary is 38 km south-west of
Khajuraho.
Gangau is home to a large variety of flora and fauna. The sanctuary comprises the territorial forests of the present North and South Panna Forest Division. Major animal species found here include
striped hyena, chital, sambar, langurs,
Nilgai deer, Indian hare and wild boar.
The nearest airport is at Khajuraho. Satna Railway Station is the nearest railhead. Regular buses are available from the
Panna Bus Station.
