Gangajateswarar-Vijayanathar Temple



Gangajateswarar-Vijayanathar Temple is situated at Govindaputtur near Kumbakonam. The temple with two prakarams has the shrine for Amman in the outer prakaram. The inner prakaram is adorned with Pralayamkaatta Vinayakar. Several inscriptions from the Chola period are found in the temple. The Maha Mandapam is decorated with the paintings of Natarajar, Dakshinamurthy, Brahma, Vishnu, Vinayakar, Subramaniyar, Shiva, Parvati and the Tevara Moovar and Manikkavacakar. The main festival is the annual Brahmotsavam celebrated in the month of Chittirai (mid April-mid May). Margazhi Tiruvadirai, Navratri, Kartikai Deepam and Aadi Pooram are also celebrated in grand manner.
