Gandhi Smarak Sangrahalaya




Run by a public trust established in 1951, Gandhi Smarak Sangrahalaya is situated within the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad. The museum has five units – office, library, two photo galleries and an auditorium. It houses original manuscripts of Gandhiji’s letters and articles and eight life-size color oil paintings. The main attraction is an exhibition on Gandhiji’s life 'My life is my message' and 'Gandhiji in Ahmedabad'.

The library houses over 30,000 books and letters of felicitation received by Gandhiji. Its archive showcases letters written by Gandhiji, manuscripts of his articles, negatives of photographs and films on Gandhiji and the freedom struggle. The museum organizes a sound and light show for a minimal fee in Gujarati at 18:30 hrs and in English at 20:30 hrs on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays. On other days the show is in Hindi.

Entry to the museum is free. The museum functions daily from 08:30 to 18:00 hrs.
