Gahma Poornima is celebrated in the month of Shravan, mainly in Orissa. The festival is dedicated to cattle, the main economic stay of villages of Orissa.

On this day the cattle are bathed and dressed with flowers and sandal-paste. The cattle-shed are cleaned and plastered. Their horns are oiled and are fed with rice-cakes and pulses. The God of agriculture 'Baladeva' is also worshipped on this occasion.
