Gahma Poornima is celebrated in the month of Shravan
, mainly in Orissa
. The festival is dedicated to cattle, the main economic stay of villages of Orissa.
On this day the cattle are bathed and dressed with flowers and sandal-paste. The cattle-shed are cleaned and plastered. Their horns are oiled and are fed with rice-cakes and pulses. The God of agriculture 'Baladeva' is also worshipped on this occasion.
