Gahanbars

Parsis, the followers of Zoroastrianism, have seven yearly feasts. Out of these, six are called Gahanbars. The literal meaning of ‘gahanbar’ is ‘to turn to the Gathas’. Gathas are religious songs encoding the principles of life. The preachings in these songs are held in high esteem and are considered the guiding force in the life.

During the event of Gahanbar, prayers are offered to the almighty. Following the prayers, one of the Gatha songs is recited. Its meaning is explained in a question-answer session. The rituals are accompanied by a feast and lots of merriment.
