Food and Drink of Orissa




Rice is the staple food of the Oriyans. Fresh sea food such as prawns and flat pomfret fish form a favorite victual in the coastal areas. Chinese and Continental dishes are served in all big restaurants in the cities. The refreshing coconut milk also has many admirers.

Dahi, bigono and baisord are famous dishes of Orissa. Sweetmeats prepared from milk such as pitha, khiramohan, rajbhog, and rabdi are also quite famous. Tea and coffee are widely consumed. Fruit juices of mango, bel, and sugarcane are available throughout the state.
