Flagstaff Tower

Flagstaff Tower is an impressive monument, situated at Northern Ridge, near the University of Delhi, in New Delhi. Situated in a serene and cool spot, Flagstaff Tower is 150 ft high and is a cake-shaped building, resembling a mini fort.

Flagstaff Tower is the spot where British ladies and children gathered during the Revolt of 1857, before they fled to Karnal. During the mutiny, this tower was a part of the military cantonment, which lies to the west of the Ridge.

A spiral staircase inside the building leads to the roof, which has an octagonal watch tower surmounted by a flag staff - the spot where once the Union Jack was hoisted. The entrance is locked and the visitors are not permitted to enter the building.
