An important mineral in mica pegmatite, Feldspar is the basic raw material in making porcelain articles. Earthenware, sanitary ware, enameled bricks and opalescent glass are made from feldspar. Feldspar in combination with ground quartz is used to make abrasive wheels. For manufacturing electrodes, the mineral is used as flux coating on welding rods.

Rajasthan is the highest producer of feldspar in India. Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra are the other states where feldspar is found and these states contain a large number of porcelain factories.
