Ekadashi Festival of Tiruvilwamala Temple




Ekadashi Festival is the annual festival celebrated at Tiruvilwamala Temple in Thrissur District. It is held on the Ekadasi in the Malayalam month of Kumbha (February- March).

This festival starts before the Ekadasi. On the Ashtami, Navami and Ekadasi days (8th, 9th and 11th day), there are special worships which includes the Vilakku (festival of lights) and Niramalas (decoration with flower garlands). To add the colorfulness of the festival, there are processions in which caparisoned elephants take part. Devotees throng the temple during this festive occasion. Many famed artists takes part in the various cultural and entertainment programs.

On the Ekadasi day, hundreds of devotees observe fast and spend their time in prayers.
