Edaganathar Temple




Edaganathar Temple lies at Tiruvedagam near Madurai. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The principal deity of this temple is Edaganatharswamy along with Goddess Umadevi. Spread over five acres, the temple is adorned with imposing gopurams. Inscriptions from the period of Jatavarman Kulasekhara Pandyan is preserved in the temple. The Sthala Teertham is Vegavathi. Saint Sambandar has contributed pathigams praising the lord. Edu Ethireriya Utsavam in the month of Vaikasi (mid May-mid June) is the main festival celebrated here. Others include Vinayaka Chaturthi, Aadi Pooram, Navratri, Aippasi Pournami, Skanda Sashti, Kartikai Deepam, Arudra Darisanam, Thaipusam, Maasi Magam, Panguni Utthram and Vaikasi Visakam. The temple can be reached by traveling 4 km south by road from Cholavanthan railway station.
