Dungi was a Buddhist site ruled Bhaumakara Dynasty during 8th and 9th century. The remains of this dynasty are still seen here. Later, this became a Shaivite center during the patronage of Somavamsis. The ancient temples of Lord Shiva and
Shivlinga scattered around the place reveals its history.
