Dulpod

Durpod

Dulpod is among the famous folk songs sung in Goa. It is the song of quick rhythm, typically descriptive of daily Goan life, particularly that of the Christians. Dulpod sings after the Mando Dance, an expression of the romantic aspect of the Goans. It is also known by the name Durpod.

The beats, which accompany the Dulpod, is the opposite to that of the Mando. In fact, Dulpod symbolizes the lively sprightliness of life among the common folk. The song moves into a staccato beat and quickens in a syncopated rhythm.

Cecila and her sewing, Modgonvam Thovyanger, and Maya-ya-ya or Lia-lia-lo are the most popular Dulpod songs. Couplets of these all songs picture the whole of Goan life in its infinite variety- human, animal and vegetable.
