Drakund




Drakund is a picturesque village located 16 km from Minkiani Pass, in the Chamba District of Himachal Pradesh. It lies, at an altitude of about 2,700 m, on the Dharamsala - Minkiani Pass trek route in Chamba Valley. Drakund is inhabited by Gaddis and Gujjars tribes.

Drakund is surrounded by apple orchards and dense forest. There is a bungalow which was last occupied by British Foresters and has been empty since they left in 1947. Lama Dal Lake, Dunali, Chamba, Bharmaur and Kareri Lake are nearby tourist destinations. Drakund is an ideal base for trekking and mountaineering.

Forest Rest House is available for stay. The best season to visit Drakund is August-September.

Nearest airport: Gaggal Airport.
Nearest railway station is at Pathankot.
