Doordarshan




Doordarshan is a public service broadcasting channel run by Prasar Bharati, subjected to the rules and regulations laid out by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in India. Its mission is to inform, educate and entertain the masses and to reach out to the every corner of inhabited land in this vast country. Doodarshan's office is located near Mandi House roundabout.

Making a humble beginning in 15th September 1959 with the purpose to transmit educational and developmental programs on an experimental basis with half an-hour programming, Doordarshan, in over the years, had grown in to one of the largest terrestrial networks in the world, catering to more than 90% of India’s population. Its flagship channel DD 1 (National) operates through a network of 1188 transmitters of varying power, reaching out to 77.5% of the land area and 89.6% population of India. Other principal channels include DD News, DD Sports, DD Bharati and DD International apart from 23 satellite regional channels.
