Doon

Kathi

Doon is a measuring vessel used in Assam to measure rice and paddy. It is also called ‘kathi’ in the Bengali Language.

Its holding capacity is specified in terms of ‘seer,’ a traditional unit almost equaling a kilogram. The vessel may hold up to 2 to 3.5 ‘seers,’ depending on the region where it is made and used.

This vessel, almost conical in shape, is made of fine bamboo strips. The bottom is fitted with a ring to provide a supporting base.
