Dhrang Fair

Dada Mekan Fair

Dhrang Fair, also known as Dada Mekan Fair, is a major fair celebrated at Dhrang, in Kutch District, Gujarat. It is celebrated on the eve of Mahashivaratri in memory of the great saint Dada Mekan, who spent all his life serving the cause of humanity.

Dhrang Fair is attended by thousands of people belonging to the Rabari and Ahir communities from Kutch, Banaskantha, Saurashtra and parts of Rajasthan. The fair is also an occasion for selecting a life partner.

During the fair men wear white dress and turban, and perform a traditional dance. They form a circle and hold their turbans or a white cloth aloft in one hand while they sway in a slow rhythm, turn around gracefully, and follow the beat set by the musicians who stand in the centre of the circle. Young girls and women wear colorful garments and ornaments and stand on one side close to the dancers. The women perform Raas Garba.
