Dheenga Gawar Festival

Every year in the month of April, the Rajasthanis celebrate their traditional 16 day festival, the Dheenga Gawar. Dedicated to the Hindhu goddess Gawar, an incarnation of Goddess Parvati, it is mainly partaken by women. During the festival, the women dress up as policemen or as Hanuman, the Hindu monkey God, and beat the village youths. It is believed that the bachelor who receives beating will be married by the next year. Goddess Gawar blesses both married n and unmarried women on the occasion. Cultural programs are conducted throughout the night.
