Desert National Park




Located about 40 km from Jaisalmer in Rajasthan, the Desert National Park is a fine example of the ecosystem of the Thar Desert.

This 3100 sq km park comprises undulating sand dunes, fixed dunes and salt-lake bottoms. Common species dominating the park include chinkara, blackbuck, desert fox, wolf, Bengal fox, and desert cat. Bird species include sand grouse, partridges, bee-eaters, larks, shrikes, demoiselle, crane, eagles, long legged and honey buzzards, falcons and kestrels. Notable among the avifauna is the great Indian bustard. Reptiles include spiny tail lizard, monitor lizard, saw sealed viper, Russell’s viper, Sind krait, toad agama and sandfish.

The Sudashri forest post is the ideal place for watching and photographing the wildlife.

The best time to visit is November to March.

Jodhpur Airport is the nearest airport and the Jaisalmer Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
