Daranti




Daranti is a picturesque village situated seven km from Munsiyari, in Pithoragarh District. It lies along the Milam Glacier trek route in the Johar Valley. Gori River flows through it. Daranti nestles among forests of juniper, oak and birch. The place offers enchanting views of the Himalayas all around. Nearby places to visit are Darkot, Maheshwari Kund, Balati Farm, Namik Glacier, Jimi Ghat Waterfalls and Sailapani. It is an ideal base for trekking and mountaineering.

Bhutiyas, people of an Indo-Tibetan tribe, live here. The village shows the culturally rich lifestyle of its inhabitants who steeps in Hinduism. The villagers decorate their houses by drawing aplana (folk ritual painting) designs in rice paste on the floor. Figures of Jyoti Patta (life giving female spirit) and Ganesh are painted on the walls. They are also rich in handicrafts.

The nearest airport is Pant Nagar Airport and the nearest railway station is at Kathgodam.
