Dah and Hanu

Dah and Hanu are two isolated villages located in Leh District of Jammu and Kashmir. These villages, enclosed by the great Hindu Kush Mountains, are on the remote side of the great Indus River. Dah and Hanu are about 187 km south-west of Leh.

The villagers belong to Dropka community and their culture and religious practices has some similarity with that of Bon-Chos, ancient pre-Buddhist religion.

Being situated in the remote area, the villages can be approached by a really bumpy road ride, which skirts a sheer cliff face with the river flowing speedy and enraged below.

So many beautiful villages such as Kaltsey, Domkhar, Skurbuchan and Achinathang are found on the way to these villages.

The nearest air port is Leh Airport (about 187 km) and the railhead is Jammu Tawi Railway Station. By road, Dah and Hanu are linked with Leh, Manali and Srinagar.
