Chovva Maha Shiva Temple

Chovva Maha Shiva Temple is one of the prominent 108 shaivite temples of India. It is situated at Melechovva, a scenic hamlet in Kannur District of Kerala.

The presiding deity here is Lord Shiva. The temple also has the beautiful idols of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Kali, and the Jeeval Samadhi of Yogeeswaran. An idol dance, Thidambu Nritham, performed on the Thiruvathira day of Dhanu (December/January) is a major attraction.

Mahashivaratri and the Mahanavami are two major festivals celebrated here. During these festivals, thousands of devotees from far-off places visit the temple with great devotion.

Melechovva is around 3 km from Kannur. Kannur Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
