Chothe Tribe




Chothe Tribe inhabits areas in Chandel District of Manipur. The name was derived from 'Kachohte', meaning to bring or to hold a boy.

Main occupation is agriculture. Their trading markets are Pallel, Tengnoupal, Kakching and Imphal. Chothe is a colorful community, enriched by folk dance and music. Sasuhang (harvesting festival) is the main festival. They also celebrate Christmas, New Year and Good Friday.

Inter marriage with Nagas are highly promoted, since they have good alliances with them.
