Chor Minar

The Tower of Thieves

Towards east of the Hauz Khas enclave, off Aurobindo Marg in the south of Delhi lies the Chor Minar (tower of thieves). Ala-ud-din Khilji constructed the tapering structure in order to teach the criminals a lesson by hanging their detached heads from the openings in the monument. The main intention was to discourage others from crime. This small circular tower has a number of circular holes on its exterior. Idgah, a mosque is nearby.
