Chogyal Chagdor Namgyal




Chogyal Chagdor Namgyal, son of Tensung Namgyal, was the third ruler of the princely state of Sikkim. He was born in 1686 AD.

The famous Guruthamar dance held in the Phensong, Labrang, Inche, Lachen, Dzongu and Pathing monasteries of Sikkim were introduced by the Chagdor Namgyal. Another significant mask dance, Rongcham was also visualized by him. It is also said that Chagdor Namgyal is the framed the Lepcha script.

The famous Tashiding Monastery was extended and renovated during his reign. Another famous gompa, Pemayangtse Monastery was built during the period of Chagdor Namgyal.
