An archeological site, Chippagiri is situated 21 km southeast of Alur in Kurnool District. The place came into prominence after traces of prehistoric settlements were found at a low fortified hill. Inscriptions recovered from the place shows that it was under the control of Chalukya ruler Taila and the Vijayanagar monarchs. A Jain temple, gateway of a ruined fort and storehouse of gunpowder on top of the hill are the other archaeological interest in the village. The place can be accessed from Alur, which is about 105 km southwest of Kurnool.
