Chimmini Wildlife Sanctuary, established in 1984, is situated at the Mukundapuram taluk of
. It covers an area of 87 sq km. The sanctuary has a dam which was constructed across the Chimmini River at 75 m above the sea level. The species and wild beasts found in this area include bonnet macaque,
, lion-tailed macaque,
, tiger, panther, jungle cat, small Indian civet,
, Malabar squirrel,
, elephant, wild buffalo, sambar, barking deer,
, Indian wild boar and more than 150 types of birds.
