Punjab, being a culturally rich state, has a variety of folk songs. In the case of wedding, there is a song for virtually every ceremony. Chhand is song sung by the bridegroom before the wedding ceremony.
In Punjabi weddings, there is a ceremony before the actual wedding. The bridegroom is taken to the bride’s home, where he has to prove his ability and wit. During the various rituals, that takes place, he is asked to sing the Chhand. This song requires some intelligence and sense of humor for the proper recital.
